Lt. General Deepak Summanwar retired from the Army in Mar 2007 after forty years of service. He has a M.Sc. in Defence Studies from Chennai University, a MBA with specialization in Marketing and Finance from the Vrije University & Solvay Business School, Brussels, and has completed a course at the Army War College that is equated to M.Phil. in Management by the Ahillia Devi University, Indore.

In the Army, he was the Director General of Military Intelligence and during his service he commanded Brigades and Battalions in combat areas. He was the spokesperson of the Army. Also, he held appointments in the Military Operations and Perspective Planning Directorates of the Army, amongst others. He has over 25 years of combat experience and has overseen Counter Insurgency and Terrorism Operations. Lt. General Deepak Summanwar was decorated for gallantry and distinguished service five times by the President of India.

Currently, he is an Independent Director on the Board of Waterbase Ltd., Peninsula Land Ltd. and Great Offshore Ltd which are all companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. As an independent consultant, he advises companies on security risk assessment, business promotion and carries out due diligence. He is an associate of Burrill Green and Co. from the UK, PICA Corporation from the US. Some of the organizations that have invited him to speak on Counter Terrorism, Management, Leadership, and other security issues are the UN Global Compact, CII, Asia Crisis Security Group, ISMA, Reserve Bank of India and National and International Think Tanks.
